SHOT & BEAD BLASTING

I offer both shot and bead blasting. To be clear, when I say shot blasting, I’m not going to do your frame, swing arm, subframe or garden furniture prior to paint or powder coat. There are other businesses better equipped for that. I’m talking more along the lines of crankcases, cylinder heads, clutch covers and fork bottoms prior to paint. These items tend to take more care and attention for fairly obvious reasons. Bead blasting is much the same situation. For those who are unfamiliar with bead blasting, it can be likened to vapour blasting in that it leaves a semi-shiney finish that looks lovely on parts that are to be left bare, such as carburettors, crankcases, hubs and some swingarms. It’s a similar process except where vapour blasting uses a water, air and media to blast a part, bead blasting is done dry with just air and media (tiny glass beads).

I do bung and mask items, where possible, prior to blasting and I also check and clean all parts after blasting of any kind. Especially those with oil ways or passages (crankcases and carburettors for example). I would recommend ultrasonic cleaning prior to blasting these parts, as any oil or grease will encourage any media that finds its way past the bung to stick in these passages with potentially disastrous consequences. This is however, up to you.
